How to Use Your Writers Bullet Journal to Track #MSWL

If you don't know what #MSWL is, you need to get involved in the writing community on Twitter! Specifically, Manuscript Academy and their fantastic courses!
September 12th, agents all over Twitter will be posting the ideas for stories that they want in their inboxes. These are things that are riffs on the stuff they see all day, and the things they want to READ. Props to the agents who do this! Trying to communicate this in less than 140 characters is HARD!
That's cool and all, Zoë, but why should I give a damn?
Either there's someone out there who wants YOUR book or you can find some new idea fodder for NaNoWriMo this year! It's so cool! And today, I'm gonna show you how to track it all in your BuJo!
But first some notes on #MSWL...
The Rules of #MSWL
Rule 1: Editors and Agents are the ones who are allowed to use this hashtag. If you are not either of those things, then you don't get to use the hashtag!
Rule 2: No pitching or querying on Twitter. If an agent has expressed interest in a manuscript that sounds like yours, you then look them up and their traditional query preferences on their agency website or personal page.
Rule 3: FINISHED MANUSCRIPTS ONLY! This doesn't count for people like me, who have two not completed manuscripts.
Rule 4: Have fun!
How to Track it in Your Bullet Journal
First, you're gonna need some software. Luckily it's FREE!
TweetDeck will auto-refresh for you, unlike the desktop site which will require manual refreshes. TweetDeck also has the ability to keep several tabs open at once, including your favorites, so that you can track who wants your manuscript. This is how I'm going to have mine set up for September 12th.
The far left has my home feed. That way I can keep on top of what's happening in the world (*cough cough* #AppleEvent).
Then, in the middle, I have my liked tweets. This way I can keep track of people who may want my manuscript and ideas that I may want to execute during NaNo.
On the far right is the actual hashtag feed, auto-refreshing and I can sit there and click like while drinking coffee that morning and watching cartoons with my kids! So easy!
But, Zoë, I'm going to be using my phone. Not my computer.
That's awesome! Here's how you do this on your computer.
With the normal app and Evernote!
Search for the hashtag and then let it sit and refresh. As the agents and editors tweet, save them to Evernote by clicking the tweet...
Then hitting the down arrow...
Then tap the top button "Share Tweet via..." This will allow you to select Evernote. Select Evernote from the options drawer that pops up.
Add some text or a note to help you remember the AMAZING ideas that are coming to your head as you think about this idea. Then hit save.
And there you go! You have saved the tweet to your phone in an easily searchable format. You can even set up a special notebook if you want!
You can, of course, do this on the browser version of Twitter and the Desktop Evernote app. Evernote has a clipper button for Safari, not sure about Explorer or Chrome, however.
Now we get out the Bullet Journal. And we are going to set up a spread very carefully in our journal to make sure we can track everyone thoroughly.
We have four columns. You can, of course, add more or split these up differently, but this is my spread for the event.
First column I have the agent's name as it appears on Twitter, along with their handle (the username with the "@" symbol). In my Leuchtterm1917, that column is 13 cells wide.
The second is the actual tweet and I try to make sure this is verbatim, that way I can make sure the story I make is exactly what the agent wanted in their original tweet. This column is also 13 cells wide.
The third column is very important. It has the preferred email of the agent, along with instructions on how to submit queries. This is 13 cells wide.
I will have a post on how to write a query letter later and another one on tracking queries in your bullet journal. But I'm not in the querying process myself, yet. So this is just not where my brain is and I haven't figured out how to best do it in the Bullet Journal. But I will write a post as soon as I do!
The fourth column is the area for notes. This is where I would plug in my thoughts on the idea, as well as if this is just an idea for me to do later or an agent who wants my current manuscript. You can of course have those two concepts in different columns, if you wish! This one is 13 cells wide.
