Weekly Update #3
When am I? Where did time go? How is it Saturday already?
If you're on my email list, I've already lamented that August has run away and left me in the dust. If you're not signed up for my email list, DO IT! I'm so proud of the free printable I've included in that sign-up and it's such a great resource!
First Draft of Novel
I'm still plugging away at this and it is taking a while. At this point, I'm having a bit of an issue.
I REALLY want to send my characters to the French Mediterranean. So I've sent them there with the leader of the Resistance. But I need to validate in my world why the Resistance would be held up in one of the richest places on the planet. Even during an economic apocalypse, the rich would find a way to hold onto their wealth. Puzzling through that one. 🤔
Second Draft of Novel
The reason I post these updates is that I LOVE to walk you through my writing and editing process. Then you can watch as I go through the process of traditional publishing and learn from what I'm doing. The process of punishing has been kept a weirdly guarded secret and it seems that not many people outside the industry actually know how it works.
I want you to learn from my mistakes and see the process from start to finish so that when you go to publish your work, you have the tools and the knowledge to streamline the process and feel confident in your choices.
BUT. That won't happen if I don't FREAKING WRITE IT! Public shaming is welcome as motivation.
Podcast of the Week
Holding with the theme of "public record publishing processes" I have been ADORING this podcast since episode ONE! The Print Run Podcast!
I started following Laura Zatts on twitter after I found her during a FANTASTIC #MSWL day.
For those of you who don't know, #MSWL stands for "'Manuscript Wish List". Agents go onto twitter and tell everyone what they want for books. Then, the authors who have that book have a FANTASTIC opportunity to submit their manuscript and SKIP the wait time!
The rules are simple: only reply if you have the manuscript COMPLETED. And only post with the hashtag if you are an AGENT who is working in the industry. Super easy!
If you don't have a completed manuscript and you aren't an agent, I still suggest participating in #MSWL and stalk the place. You'll find agents to follow on twitter and find out who would be MOST likely to want the manuscript you're currently working on. And it's a HUGE help if you're struggling with doubt if anyone wants to buy your novel. If you see agents calling for something similar on this hashtag, YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!
That. Was a huge rabbit trail. All leading us to this podcast. Laura and Erik tackle some pretty big problems in the publishing industry and even give some really great tips to writers. And if you sign up for their Patreon, you have access to their First Pages and their Queries shows. There, they anonymously critique people's first pages or heir queries. SO AWESOME!
Go check them out and make sure to participate in #MSWL on twitter!
And that is all I have for you this week! Thank you SO MUCH for reading and make sure to sign up for my email list! See you on Tuesday!
